Event Details

Good food, craft beer and bourbon, live music, and a great time talking about books and Southern culture under the live oaks: That's what the fifth annual Walker Percy Weekend has to offer when it returns to celebrate the acclaimed novelist's life and work, June 1—3 in St. Francisville.

Schedule Highlights

• A Friday evening "Lost in the Churchyard" reception and cocktail party staged in the beautiful, historic churchyard at Grace Episcopal Church. $75 includes music under the oaks, wine and beer, and fine hors d'oeuvres crafted by Chef James "Tiger" Grace of Cuisine Louisiane. 7 pm to 10 pm. In the event of rain, it will be held in Jackson Hall at Grace Episcopal Church.

• A Saturday series of Lectures and Panel Discussions on themes explored in Percy's books including discussions on Walker Percy's views on race and the South; Percy's friendship and correspondence with psychologist Robert Coles; the relevance of Percy's dystopian novel Love In The Ruins to our present political and cultural moment; and the life and literary legacy of historian Shelby Foote. Events held at historic district locations including the West Feliciana Courthouse, newly restored Temple Sinai, and Grace Episcopal Church. A $50 "Lectures" ticket good for admission to all lectures and panel discussions goes on sale May 1, 2018.

• A Saturday-afternoon Progressive Front-Porch Tour and Bourbon Tasting with readings, inspired by Percy's essay on drinking Bourbon, Neat. 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Stroll with bourbon in hand between several private porches in St. Francisville's historic district. This year's event also features a Premium Tasting Tent offering measures of notable single-batch whiskeys. Must be 21 or over to attend. $65 (on sale May 1, 2018)

• Saturday evening: Crawfish Boil: Back by popular demand: The authentic Louisiana crawfish boil including cash bar with selection of local craft beers, presented by Chefs Cody and Samantha Carroll of Hot Tails Restaurant in New Roads and Sac-a-Lait restaurant in New Orleans with live music. 7:30 pm–10:30 pm on Prosperity Street. $35 (on sale May 1, 2018).
