Closing out the 2019 Natchez Festival of Music is the beloved and tragic opera, La Bohème on May 25 at the Natchez City Auditorium.
La Bohème—based on the book Scenes from Bohemian Life—tells the story of a love affair between a poor poet and an equally poor seamstress in 19th century Paris.
The poet Rodolfo and his friends, Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline, manage to maintain an enjoyable take on life despite their extreme financial difficulties. During the cold winter, a torrid romance is kindled between Rodolfo and a beautiful seamstress named Mimì, but love is not the only thing lurking in the city; tragedy and sadness await them all.
