Event Details

One of the most highly anticipated culinary events in Mississippi, the Natchez Food & Wine Festival attracts top chefs and restaurateurs from throughout the Gulf South. Each summer, they gather in Natchez to stage multiple-course dinners in historic mansions, progressive dining events, gourmet tastings, and casual social occasions that make the most of the city's spectacular riverside setting.

All along the Great River Road, renowned chefs, restaurateurs, vintners, and craft beer brewers descend on Natchez for the summer Food & Wine Festival. Friday night offers a huge taster's fair—"Tastings Along the Mississippi River"—with scores of regional chefs and restaurants participating (it always sells out); and top regional chefs stage elaborate feasts in grand Natchez mansions on Saturday night. It's a weekend-long chance to enjoy fine food, wine, and craft brews in Natchez—the oldest permanent settlement along the Mississippi River and home to more than five hundred antebellum structures. Details for individual events are as follow:

Friday
• 6:30 pm–9:30 pm: The popular Tastings Along the River fair offers delicious tidbits by scores of local and regional chefs, paired with premium wine and craft beer tastings and live music in a casual atmosphere, at the Natchez Convention Center. Grab a glass and taste dozens of wines alongside delicacies by restaurants and chefs from around the region. Back will be the "after hours chefs' party" for participating chefs and tastings ticket holders at Bowie's Tavern, from 9 pm until late. Chef's Party admission included with Tastings wristband, which is $70 in advance or $85 at the door.

• 7 pm: "Food as Art" at The Elms: Chef Esther Carpenter will collaborate with Chef Adam Ozga of Jacksonville, Florida, to present a five-course meal prepared in the tradition of classic regional French cuisine. In its tastes and preparation the menu will reflect the 19th century artists of Impressionism. Carpenter's culinary accomplishments have been featured in Food and Wine, Gourmet and Bon Appetit. She was named one of “The Top Twenty Female Chefs” in the country by USA Today. Ozga served as executive chef for The Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass for many years. Two seatings at Chef Carpenter's historic family home are available: Friday, August 3 at 7 pm or Saturday, August 4 at 7 pm.

• 8 pm Friday & Saturday: The Towers Paranormal Champagne & Dessert Tour. The Towers, built between 1798, 1826-1858 was used as a headquarters by Federal Troops occupying Natchez during the Civil War. Several ghostly appearances have occurred recently, with apparitions of soldiers appearing alongside the original nineteenth century owners, the Fleming family. The Flemings experienced a multitude of personal tragedies while living in this exquisite residence, which brims with history, unique collections and Southern charm.
Current owners Ginger & James Hyland are currently restoring the mansion's original “towers” that once adorned this extraordinary home. Friday and Saturday night tours begin promptly at 8 pm, and will include a Champagne and dessert reception. $60.

Saturday
• 11 am–2 pm: Progressive Luncheon: In partnership with the Natchez Bed & Breakfast Association, this is a self-driving tour visiting several of Natchez's hidden historic and architectural treasures. Tours begin at 11 am, 11:45 am, 12:30 am, 1:15 pm, and 2 pm. $60. Reservations for each must be made in advance. Please select the time that suits and book tickets accordingly.

• 1:30 pm–3 pm: Wine & Cheese Tasting at The Castle Restaurant on the grounds of Dunleith Historic Inn. Hosted in a circa 1790's building that once served as the plantation's carriage house, this event brings experts from New Orleans' St. James Cheese Company to lead an international tour into the world of cheese. Castle manager and cocktail consultant Mark Brockway will oversee wine pairings featuring Gallo's premier pours. $50 per person (tickets usually sell out; get yours early).

• 5 pm7 pm: It's baaaack! Burgers, Blues, and Bocce, serving up lighthearted bocce competition, craft beer, and gourmet burgers, on the Bluff in front of Bowie's Tavern at sunset. $40.

• 7:30 pm: Saturday night belongs to the festival's signature wine dinners. This year the Invitation to the Natchez Table dinners offer multi-course menus in historic surroundings at Dunleith and The Elms. Here's what each has in store.
"Food as Art" at The Elms: Chef Esther Carpenter will collaborate with Chef Adam Ozga of Jacksonville, Florida, to present a five-course meal prepared in the tradition of classic regional French cuisine. In its tastes and preparation the menu will reflect the 19th century artists of Impressionism. Carpenter's culinary accomplishments have been featured in Food and Wine, Gourmet and Bon Appetit. Two seatings at Chef Carpenter's historic family home are available: Friday, August 3 at 7 pm or Saturday, August 4 at 7 pm.
Dinner at Dunleith: Details TBA
Tickets for each are $125 all-inclusive.

• 8 pm Friday & Saturday: The Towers Paranormal Champagne & Dessert Tour. A repeat of the Friday evening event described above. Begins promptly at 8 pm and includes a Champagne and dessert reception. $60.

Sunday
11 am–2 pm: Jazz Brunch Buffet at Rolling River Bistro. What better way to end a Natchez weekend than with a traditional Sunday Jazz brunch. Sip chilled champagne, or Southern mint lemonade served with or without Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka; or a Bistro Bloody Mary. With a prime rib carving station, salad bar, and dessert station, all served to the tune of live jazz music. Two seatings, 11 am and 1 pm; guests will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
