I want to share with you the motivation behind our event and logo design. Soul Food Fusion Festival was designed to highlight the culinary and cultural contributions of African Americans and Native Americans in the Natchez Area. The wooden spoon was often the only worldly possession owned by an individual of color. It was common practice to pass these culinary items and other family heirlooms upon one's death. Wooden spoons were among the keepsakes passed along.
For some people, wooden spoons hold emotional attachments and special memories with family. Wood retains memories in ways that metal and plastic cannot express. It shows signs of use, aging and they even may appear to have taken a beating. It changes color and texture, wears and ages, and even changes shapes. No matter what the spoon looks like, it always gives food the perfect fusion.
This is why I selected the wooden spoon as the official logo and keepsake of this festival. It also reminds me of my community; no matter what it looks like, it takes a good mixture of everyone's heritage and culture to make up this community. My hopes are for you to enjoy, admire and appreciate the culture of our community.
Join us to commune at our featured street-long family dinner table. This year, we would like to invite you to our kitchen table and invite you to the BBQ Blues and Brews event and the Lazy Magnolia Sunday Brunch. We will be so honored to have our visitors and a special guest join us for a white linen night and feel right at home "Just like family."
