Event Details

The City of Covington will host Whisperings, a living history tour, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm at Covington Cemetery No. 1.

Participants will be treated to a twilight tour of the historic cemetery, which dates back to Covington’s founding in 1813. Modern-day actors will portray historic personages who are buried in the city’s oldest cemetery. Guests will come away with a greater appreciation for the City’s rich cultural history, the people who helped shape Covington and the parish into what they are today, and the unique architectural features found on some of the tombs, many of which date back to the 1820s.

Covington Cemetery No. 1 is located at 608 N. Columbia Street. across from the Covington Police Department. Tours will be launched in 20-minute increments, and each tour group will accommodate 20 people. Reservations for time slots are recommended, as space is limited. The event is designed for audiences ages 12 and up. Cemetery etiquette and decorum will be followed.

The event is sponsored by the Covington Heritage Foundation in partnership with the Covington Cemetery Board, an advisory group dedicated to the preservation and care of the city’s municipal cemeteries. For more information, contact (985) 892-1873 or [email protected].
