Natchez Garden Club

The Natchez Garden Club offers many events throughout the year to celebrate beautiful homes and gardens in the Natchez, Mississippi, area.

Natchez Garden Club

Started in 1927, the Natchez Garden Club is a community organization that maintains the homes of The Preservation Society of Ellicott Hill, a non-profit organization. The Natchez Garden Club’s community service projects will continue through maintaining the antique rose garden at the James Andrews House/Lawyer’s Lodge, and our work at the historic Natchez City Cemetery Camellia Project. We will also supply food for the Stewpot and much-needed supplies to the Guardian Shelter, as well as provide landscaping assistance for Habitat for Humanity projects. To promote our city, our members will serve on city boards and commissions, host special events for visitors to our city, and work closely with the Natchez Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Historic Natchez Foundation, and Natchez Downtown Development Association. The Natchez Garden Club has contributed to the development of the Natchez Trails Project in conjunction with the Natchez Community Alliance. The Alliance has developed a historic walking and biking tour in downtown Natchez, Mississippi. We continue to develop living history tours that enhance our historic properties. Our club will also provide space for artists to create and displace appropriate artwork of the period at one of our houses during Fall and Spring Pilgrimages. Working closely with the Preservation Society of Ellicott Hill, the club will continue to refurbish and maintain the houses and grounds of Magnolia Hall, James Andrews House/Lawyer’s Lodge and The House on Ellicott Hill including our meeting site, Ellicott Hall. We will work constantly to improve our skills of gardening and sound environmental practices. The grounds of all three (3) club-owned houses will show evidence of our commitment to sound horticultural practices by the planting of historically and regionally appropriate plans in our urban environment. By grooming an reshaping native trees and shrubs, our club will continually work to provide shade, air quality, and beauty. Our gardens will be available to our Young Gardeners so that we are able to share with them the importance of gardening. We will dedicate ourselves to the education of the garden club members of the future as well as to visiting tourists and area community.
